Jan is of a short stature, for a man. He is outward and friendly towards people and seems approachable to anyone, maybe it's the short auburn hair? But something always feels strange about him, maybe it's how he worries a lot.

Jan has his backpack on him at all times, it's contents are:

  • Camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark III) + 3 lenses and two memory cards
  • Hunting Knife
  • Spare change of clothes
  • Russian Rubles (193 to be exact)
  • Sunglasses
  • Russian Ration

Jan has woodland clothing on, a camouflage shirt with brown jacket and tan trousers along with hiking boots.

Jan was born and raised in the Netherlands, attending a standard technical college and having a penchant for photography he decided to become a freelance journalist. Travelling south when he turned eighteen he ended up in Greece for the summer and stayed there upon taking up a job with a newspaper.

Moving though jobs for the next six or seven years and travelling across Europe and the Middle-East, Jan started to hear stories of dangerous, strange and amazing artifacts. Hidden from the world but there for anyone who strove the seek them out. Following local leads in Ukraine and south-European Russia, Jan believed that he was closing in on one of this strange objects himself, after months of searching and questioning locals he got a location. Along with the information that someone else was looking for the object too.

Zeroing in on the location of the proposed 'object', Jan was lead to the Russian-Kazakhstan border close to the abandoned village of Саван. Making camp in the hills behind the village, Jan stayed for several weeks investigating the area, exploring the village thoroughly; his investigations eventually leading to the church. Upon exploring the small church for several hours one afternoon, Jan discovered a talisman in a box amongst some crates.

Hearing a large amount of footsteps on the floorboards above, Jan searched for a place to find cover, finding none he stood in the centre of the room. Just as the force above had entered the cellar. The woman leading the group, who did not acknowledge herself by name demanded that the talisman be handed to her. Touching it out of instinct to protect the object Jan disappeared and managed to escape the cellar in the utter confusion.

Racing up the wooden stairs Jan alerted the guard by the sound of his footsteps, shoving the man out of the way Jan became visible again, leading the other agents in the church to open fire as he made it out the door. Running though the centre of the village a bullet clipped Jan's thigh causing him to loose his footing and and fall down a nearby well, he saw a shot of light and then black.

Upon waking he felt that his wound had been bandaged and the bullet removed, lying on the floor in a dark room, Jan removed his torch from his backpack. And left into the darkness.
