Description:

Celeste is a smallish, walking female skeleton, who prefers light sundresses and the like. Always wears a blue ribbon around her neck and a wide-brimmed, floppy blue sun-hat.

Background:

The girl who would become Celeste died very suddenly several decades ago of some kind of strange illness. Distraught, her fiancée- her only other family member- sought a way to bring her back from the grave.

One dark night as he was poring over yet another obscure book of the occult, he was approached by a strange man wearing a hat and coat. The stranger seemed to know what Celeste's fiancee was looking for, and offered unsolicited advice in the form of the name of another book, Subtler Life Processes by a Hugo Corhill.

After months of searching, her fiancée finally found a copy in the deepest archives of a small museum in a port town to the north. "Borrowing" it, he returned home and began to study. One week later he performed a ritual described within the book, involving animal blood sacrifice, her remains, and the use of a church hall, in an effort to return his love to life. It did not go quite as he had hoped.

The ritual brought Celeste's skeleton back to life, and it retained no concrete memories of her previous life. Half-formed memories like those of a dream drift through her mind sometimes, but the new Celeste was not the old Celeste, and this broke her once-fiancée's heart. He soon left her and ended his life quietly in the river.

This new Celeste was found by the church's priest the next morning, confused and locked in the church hall. He took her in, believing that this happened for a reason, and she lived for a while in the church's belltower, helping the priest out in the off hours.

Celeste has an extremely kind, patient soul who was very aware of her existence and her nature. She knew she was truly unnatural, but she was still a person. She took to faith to find her place in the world.

Then one day, when the priest sent her down to grab some extra hymnals from the basement, Celeste heard the door close behind her. When she turned to go back upstairs, she found herself in an empty room with four doors and blue pipes winding through the walls.
